Residency Program

Launching in 2024 and running from April to August, the hotel’s residency program offers a unique platform for aspiring visual artists to refine their practice, providing a dedicated studio space, a serene environment and ample resources for creative immersion within the striking setting on the Italian coastline. Residents will produce and exhibit new works and open their studios to guests, cultivating visibility, new conversations and international engagement.

Nasser Almulhim

Kickingoff the summer, Saudi Arabian painter Nasser Almulhim joins us with a bold,expressive practice rooted in abstraction, emotion, and spiritual inquiry.Drawing on memory, healing, and regional architecture, Almulhim approaches thecanvas as a space for transformation. At La Serena, he’ll respond to thevilla’s calm rhythm and nearby historical cities to inform a new body of workexploring inner and outer landscapes.

Pippa El-Kadhi Brown

Britishartist Pippa El-Kadhi Brown explores traces left by the body in space—what shecalls “human-made Frankensteins.” Her work blends physical interiors andpsychological landscapes, shaped by memory and the uncanny. During herresidency, she’ll engage with La Serena’s understated elegance and Tuscany’srich history to create paintings that explore domestic rituals and spatialtransitions through poetic, layered compositions.

Ziad Al Najjar

Ziad Al Najjar is an Emirati artist whose practice explores materiality, perception, and the emotional resonance of colour. Working primarily on unstretched canvas, his tactile abstractions are informed by constructivism, op-art, and nature’s organic geometries. At La Serena, Al Najjar will deepen his investigation into the relationship between structure and fluidity, drawing from the Tuscan landscape to expand his ongoing enquiry into spiritual presence, earthbound memory, and the illusionary.

Samo Shalaby

Samo Shalaby is an Egyptian-Palestinian fine artist based between Dubai and London. Growing up in Cairo and Dubai before pursuing his artistic education at Central Saint Martins, Samo was exposed to a myriad of artistic expressions that have shaped his unique creative oeuvre. Exploring fields such as stage design, costume design, and jewellery, Samo intergrates strands of theatrical essence into his work, infused with a distinct dramatic flair.
